EN ROUTE TO THE CARIBBEAN · SINCE 1999
The saga

Welcome to Monkey Island

Come in curious. You might leave an aspiring pirate.

New to these islands? Perfectly fine. Guybrush arrived with much the same equipment: few certainties, plenty of curiosity and a dream far bigger than his experience.

No pirate experience required

Just a willingness to look around.

Monkey Island is a series of comic adventures: explore places, talk to people, collect objects and connect ideas. Discovering how this world works is part of the pleasure.

Guybrush Threepwood dreams of becoming a mighty pirate, yet trouble always seems bigger than he is. Elaine Marley charts her own course; LeChuck brings a supernatural threat. Around them, memorable characters can turn even a simple errand into an adventure.

Look

A room is more than a backdrop. A detail, sign or habit may become a clue.

Listen

A conversation can make you laugh, change your objective or suggest a question you had not thought to ask.

Connect

Objects matter for what they might do, beyond their obvious purpose. A surprising answer still needs a logic.

Even a conversation can be an adventure

An original little exercise from the site, not a solution from the games.

A bell on the counter has a sign: ‘Ring if the innkeeper is absent’. The innkeeper is right in front of you, absorbed in a newspaper. You want a room. Where do you start?

Here, words matter as much as the sword. An illustration inspired by the saga’s duels.

Open the drawers

Twelve small discoveries. None reveals the endings; every object opens another route through the site.

The compass

Different games visit different islands. The Atlas brings documented locations together with clearly labelled artistic reconstructions, rather than claiming to be an official map.

The mug

These Caribbean islands are a comic fantasy, full of anachronisms and surprisingly everyday concerns. You do not need a history of piracy to feel at home.

The rubber chicken

An absurd object can become an icon. The famous chicken with a pulley captures the saga’s tone; discovering its use is something we leave to the game.

The skull

Murray first appears in The Curse of Monkey Island: an enormous personality with very little body to contain it.

The sword

The first game’s duels also depend on words. Listening and learning replies become part of the challenge: quick fingers are not the only kind of skill.

The clock

The six main games arrived in 1990, 1991, 1997, 2000, 2009 and 2022. Special Editions, collections and crossovers are different routes, not extra numbered chapters.

The score

Music builds atmosphere alongside the islands’ colours. Explore the site’s jukebox collection; the characters’ voices have their own dedicated route.

Two portraits

The series changes its drawing style, technology and interpretation of characters. Every game has its own visual voice.

The five-part journal

Tales of Monkey Island is one adventure told in five episodes, not five additional main instalments.

The sealed envelope

The Secret is also a question accompanying the journey. When discussing endings, we distinguish what the games show from possible interpretations.

A ticket to another ship

The Legend of Monkey Island is an official Sea of Thieves crossover: an adventure within that game, separate from the six main chapters.

The newspaper clipping

Boxes, manuals, reviews and advertisements preserve how people anticipated and discovered these games. The Museum and press collection keep those memories.

The Secret of Monkey Island · A few previews

Between the port, the forest and the residence of governor Elaine Marley, Guybrush discovers a world populated by swordsmen, merchants and tales of the terrible ghost pirate LeChuck. Meeting Elaine gives his ambition an unexpected direction, while a threat from the sea transforms his trials as an aspiring pirate into something much more personal.

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge · A few previews

To get back on the road, Guybrush must confront old acquaintances, resort to voodoo and collect clues on a map divided into several parts. The hunt takes him between different islands, each with its own rules, its own interests and characters who are not very inclined to spontaneously deliver what he needs.

The Curse of Monkey Island · A few previews

To help Elaine, Guybrush must discover how to break the spell and get back to sea. You need a ship, a crew and a route to Blood Island, but in the Caribbean none of these things are achieved without bargaining, tricking someone or solving a seemingly meaningless problem.

Escape from Monkey Island · A few previews

While Elaine tries to regain control of the situation, Guybrush finds himself faced with paperwork to sort out, new islands to visit and adversaries who have very specific plans for the archipelago. The rich Ozzie Mandrill wants to transform the world of pirates according to his own interests: to the threat of old enemies is added that of a future made of business and tourist attractions.

Tales of Monkey Island · A few previews

Separated from Elaine and landed on the singular island of Flotsam, Guybrush must first find a way to get back to sea, then look for a cure. Capricious winds, uncooperative pirates and characters with intentions that are difficult to decipher await him. Between old acquaintances and new encounters, finding your way requires much more than a good map.

Return to Monkey Island · A few previews

The Caribbean has not remained still waiting for him: new pirates are coming forward, the balance has changed and some old acquaintances have other worries. Between LeChuck's return, meetings with Elaine and the characters that animate the port, Guybrush must figure out how to get a ride and get back on the trail of the mystery.
