Guybrush's Journey

The Secret of Monkey Island is the first chapter of the Monkey Island saga and was produced in 1990. Here appears the absolute protagonist of the entire series, Guybrush Threepwood, a young man with a dark past who arrives on a small island in the Caribbean, the island of Mêlée, with a dream to realize: to become a pirate. In his first daring adventure Guybrush meets various supporting characters, some simply hilarious, such as Stan the salesman (here with boats, but in subsequent episodes he will adapt to dealing with the most disparate items), the Sword Master, Otis or the Fettuccini brothers, acrobats of an unlikely (and deserted) circus. Above all, during the first part of the game (the infamous Three Tests to pass to become a true pirate), he meets the governor of Mêlée, Elaine Marley, with whom he falls in love. The problem arises when the "undead" pirate LeChuck falls in love with the same girl and kidnaps her; Guybrush, determined to save her, then begins a long journey... In the mid-1990s, LucasArts published a new version of Monkey 1, on CD-Rom, in 256 colors and with high-quality sound on an audio CD track. The game is even better than the 1990 floppy version. The SCUMM system has also improved, now like in MI2 with drawn objects.
