Guybrush's Journey
Tales of Monkey Island is an episodic graphic adventure developed by Telltale Games in collaboration with LucasArts. It's a sort of fifth installment in the Monkey Island series. The five episodes that compose it have been released on a monthly basis starting from 7 July 2009, for Microsoft Windows and from 27 July for Wii in North America, while from 31 July 2009 it is also available for European Wii users. Since June 15, 2010, it has also been available for PlayStation Network. Since December 2010, the publication of episodes for the iPad began. Since approximately 2011 the 5 episodes have been released in a single package called Tales of Monkey Island Complete Pack.
Although the more traditionalist faction of fans initially harshly criticized both the 3D graphics, decidedly lacking in detail when compared to what a 2D like that of The Curse of Monkey Island could offer, and the new "hybrid" control system, which contemplates the simultaneous use of keyboard and mouse instead of the classic "point and click", the first episode of this game, Launch of The Screaming Narwhal, proved to be a a real success with the public and critics, who praised the great return to a dark, gripping, epic and slightly fantasy-like swashbuckling adventure in its structure but exhilarating in its details, in the style of the now point of reference of excellence for every fan of the Monkey Island 2 saga: LeChuck's Revenge. Fans also enormously appreciated the return of a Guybrush Threepwood who has truly evolved from a psychological point of view compared to the previous chapters, presenting himself as mature, heroic, courageous and sarcastic, and incredibly funny in his every action. On the other hand, some of the more traditional fans continue to complain about the excessive simplicity of the puzzles, which, also thanks to a control system that only allows one predefined action for each object rather than allowing multiple commands such as "Use" and "Examine", reduces the longevity of a single episode to just 4-5 hours. However, there are also those who are convinced that this system allows the graphic adventures to be more streamlined, fun, immediate, and to make the player identify more with the story while still offering him a good and never frustrating level of challenge. Even the lack of deep graphic detail can be said to be compensated by a great dynamism of the shots and by an excellent work done on the facial expressions, especially of the protagonist, all things missing in the previous Escape from Monkey Island where the in-game shots were static and the expressions much less refined. The control system, although not identical to the traditional point and click, is ultimately functional and easy to use. Tales of Monkey Island was Telltale's biggest commercial success, until the release of Back to the Future: The Game.

The unaware Guybrush cannot know that his search is actually part of a larger and more sinister script: good and evil are not always what they seem... Who can Guybrush trust? Where can it go?
