Escape from Monkey Island

Guybrush's Journey

Escape from Monkey Island is the fourth chapter of the Monkey Island saga and was produced in 2000. The game boasts a brilliant new graphic design that allows it to compete well with contemporary titles. Thanks to the new version of the GrimE graphics engine, an evolution of the one used in the Grim Fandango game, the characters move in three dimensions on splendid pastel-coloured backdrops and the use of the mouse is abandoned in favor of the keyboard. The start of Escape from Monkey Island sees Guybrush and Elaine who, upon returning from a lively honeymoon, discover that they have been left for dead: they must therefore prevent the destruction of their home and then shed light on what happened. Things get complicated with the appearance of a pompous and treacherous candidate for governor, in place of the late Elaine, while Guybrush is arrested for robbing a bank and the plans of a shady figure, the billionaire Ozzie Mandrill, who aims to get hold of a voodoo artifact known as the Supreme Insult, must be foiled. We thus find ourselves involved in a real battle with the law, trips to haunted swamps, diving competitions and elementary schools for pirates, in a pirate and ridiculous world, meeting old and new characters.
