The history of LucasArts

The laboratory from which many adventures started.

The adventure laboratory: characters and ideas beyond the screen.
The adventure laboratory: characters and ideas beyond the screen.

A laboratory of ideas

In 1982, Lucasfilm Games took shape, a small group within the computer division of Lucasfilm. The first productions explored action and science fiction; in the following years the interactive story became one of his most fertile fields.

The language of adventures

With Maniac Mansion, in 1987, SCUMM allows you to build scenes and interactions through a reusable system. The worlds and characters change, but the idea of making writing, graphics, puzzles and humor dialogue remains. From Zak to Monkey Island, from the temporal inventions of Day of the Tentacle to the journeys of The Dig, the catalog demonstrates how many forms an adventure can take.

The LucasArts signature

In the nineties the name LucasArts accompanied games that became points of reference for many fans. The authors experiment with sound, dubbing, animation and new ways of storytelling: the outline of a backdrop, a joke and a musical choice can become as recognizable as a character.

A name that continues the journey

In 2021 Lucasfilm Games returns to being the official brand for Lucasfilm-related titles. The work passes through collaborations with different developers; in 2022 Return to Monkey Island brings Guybrush back to the center of a new adventure.

This section above all follows the legacy of graphic adventures. It does not include every published game: the ten pages of the site are an itinerary within that creative season.
