Ringtones

Pirate themes in the pockets of the crew.

A cell phone rings on a pirate table, among musical notes, a map and a doubloon
A call from the Caribbean.
The music of the saga, always with you

Your phone may sound like a pirate

Today you can save the music from the collection on your phone and use a short excerpt as a ringtone, on Android and iPhone. MP3s are audio files ready to listen to; MIDI contains musical notes and instructions and requires a compatible app or conversion to audio.

You don't just need to search for an old cell phone ringtone: you can also start from the themes and arrangements preserved in the musical sections.

On Android

  1. Download an MP3 to your phone; if it is inside a ZIP archive, extract the audio file first.
  2. Open the file in Files by Google and choose from its menu Set as ringtone. If prompted, allow the app to change system settings.
  3. You can also search for the choice of a personal file in the phone's ringtone settings: names and menus vary depending on brand and version.

For MIDI, if the phone does not offer it among the ringtones, first transform it into an audio file with a compatible app or music program. For a more predictable result across different devices, start with MP3.

On iPhone · iOS

Save music in the app File. On iOS 26 and later, with an MP3 or M4A already shorter than 30 seconds, you can use Share → Use as ringtone, if the entry is available. To trim a song or when this option doesn't appear, you can do everything on the iPhone with GarageBand.

  1. Open a project in GarageBand and import the audio file from the Tracks view, through the Loop browser and the Files tab.
  2. Choose the part you prefer and reduce it to a maximum of 30 seconds.
  3. From My songs, select the project and use Share → Ringtone → Export; at the end choose to use it as your standard ringtone.

GarageBand can also import MIDI and play them with its own instruments: you can then prepare them in the project and export the result as a ringtone. A MIDI cannot be directly set as a tone by simply copying it into File.

The ringtones of the first crew

This collection also preserves melodies from the era of old Nokia cell phones and models compatible with note ringtones. Musical sequences were used to be inserted into the phone's composer or to be transferred with dedicated programs: they were different from the MP3 recordings of smartphones. Compatibility depended on the model and ringtone format. The archives below contain different materials, described separately.

The theme of Largo LaGrande

From Monkey Island 2: The archive contains an MP3 and an instruction file. Extract the audio to listen to it or prepare a ringtone with the steps described above.

Luca Vicidomini's ringtone

A melody in the RTTTL note format, related to the ringtones of older Nokia and compatible phones. In the original instructions Luca specifies that he prepared it for a Philips mobile phone and mentions NokRing and RingTone Converter as tools of the time. The ZIP contains the musical sequence and instructions in three text files - it is not a smartphone-ready MP3 recording.
